Set among the rolling farmland of the Bay of Islands, Mahoe Farmhouse Cheese offers visitors the chance to discover exceptional artisan cheese right where it is made. This family-run cheesery uses fresh milk from its own herd to produce an award-winning range of handcrafted cheeses, yoghurts and other fresh dairy products.
At Mahoe Farmhouse Cheese, the journey from pasture to finished cheese happens entirely on the farm. Mahoe’s mixed-breed herd grazes on the surrounding farmland, and after each milking the fresh milk travels directly into the cheese vats without ever leaving the property.
The family-run cheesery has been perfecting its craft for around 40 years, combining traditional European cheesemaking methods with high-quality Northland milk. Its range includes creamy Gouda, cumin Gouda, mature Edam and the award-winning Very Old Edam, along with Mahoe Blue, feta, quark and Greek-style yoghurt.
Visitors are welcome to call into the farm shop, sample a selection of cheeses and learn more about the different varieties. Cheeses can be purchased directly from the producer, alongside locally made pickles, preserves, olive oils, sausages and salamis—everything needed to create a memorable Northland grazing platter.
Located at Oromahoe, approximately 15 minutes south of Kerikeri, Mahoe Farmhouse Cheese makes an easy and worthwhile stop when travelling between Kerikeri, Paihia and Kawakawa. It is an authentic taste of the Bay of Islands and a chance to support a longstanding local family business.
You can also find our stall at the Kerikeri Farmers market on a Sunday morning in town.
