Set among the forests of Waitangi, around 25 minutes from Kerikeri, Waitangi Mountain Bike Park is one of Northland’s premier outdoor attractions. With trails for beginners, families and experienced riders, it’s an exhilarating way to experience the natural beauty of the Bay of Islands.
Whether you’re looking for a gentle ride through the forest or fast-flowing berms, jumps and technical descents, Waitangi Mountain Bike Park has a trail to suit. Its extensive network includes more than 50km of professionally designed tracks, ranging from Grade 2 easy trails through to Grade 5 advanced terrain.
Families and newer riders can build confidence on the easier trails, while experienced mountain bikers can tackle cross-country routes, downhill runs and the purpose-built Pekenui Jump & Skills Park. Along the way, riders can enjoy native forest, elevated coastal views and a landscape rich in cultural and historical significance.
Don’t have a bike with you? Paihia Mountain Bikes operates from the park entrance, offering kids’ bikes, full-suspension mountain bikes and e-bikes, along with helmets, trail maps and local advice. Pikiniki Café is also located at the entrance, providing a welcome place to refuel after your ride.
The park is community-created and maintained, and riders are encouraged to register and make a small day or annual donation to help fund trail maintenance and park operations.
