Beginning near the corner of Hewitt Road and Purerua Road, the track follows a marked route through a varied rural landscape. Along the way, walkers cross three stiles and follow signs and orange track markers towards the coast.

The track is mostly well formed but includes several inclines, exposed sections, patches of scrub and areas that can become muddy after rain. After approximately 3.7 kilometres, the track emerges at Taronui Bay—a peaceful stretch of white sand surrounded by coastal vegetation.

With no road access or nearby development, the bay feels wonderfully remote. Allow time to enjoy the beach, take in the coastal scenery and have a picnic before beginning the return walk. There are no facilities at the reserve, so bring everything you need and take all rubbish home with you.

The track is exposed to the weather, particularly during the warmer months. Carry plenty of drinking water and bring sun protection, suitable footwear and clothing for changing conditions.
