Beginning at the beautiful Mahinepua Beach, the track climbs gently through regenerating native bush before following the ridgeline along the length of the peninsula. The well-maintained pathway includes a number of stairways and lookout points, with spectacular views unfolding around every corner. Along the way you’ll discover sheltered coves, pristine beaches and rugged headlands that make this walk one of the Far North’s most rewarding coastal experiences.

The track is approximately 3km one way (6km return) and is suitable for most walkers with a reasonable level of fitness. A scenic loop near the far end of the peninsula provides even more panoramic views, including vistas towards the Cavalli Islands, Cape Brett and, on clear days, the Karikari Peninsula.

The peninsula is also rich in cultural significance, with several historic Māori pā sites located along the route. The area was once an important settlement and food-gathering location, and remnants of this history remain visible throughout the reserve today.
