Marsden Winery’s name holds a special connection to Kerikeri’s history. In 1819, the Reverend Samuel Marsden planted around 100 grapevines at the Kerikeri mission station—widely regarded as New Zealand’s first vineyard planting. He recorded his belief that the country’s soil and climate would prove favourable for growing grapes, laying an early foundation for New Zealand’s now internationally recognised wine industry.

When Rod and Cindy MacIvor established their Kerikeri vineyard generations later, they named it in honour of Marsden and his pioneering connection to winegrowing in the area. Today, Marsden Winery continues that story, producing award-winning Northland wines in the place where New Zealand’s wine history began.

Just a few minutes from central Kerikeri, the winery combines this fascinating heritage with excellent food and a beautiful garden setting. Begin your visit at the cellar door, where you can sample a flight of Marsden wines and learn more about winemaking in Northland’s warm, subtropical climate.
