 Landmark occasion for Kerikeri airport
This Origin Pacific Airlines ATR 72, bringing a touring church group to the Bay of Islands this week, was the biggest passenger plan ever to land at Kerikeri. The aircraft carries more than 60 passengers. Origin spokesman Gilbert Blakeborough said there is increasing demand for regular charters to the Bay of Islands but a regular Origin service is not being considered at this stage. Sixty one planes visit Kerikeri. The Around New Zealand Air Race 2004 started on Monday, dropping in at Kerikeri for lunch. The participants are set to travel about 3,500 nautical miles (6482km) around New Zealand, finishing in Wanaka just in time for the internationally acclaimed Warbirds over Wanaka airshow.
