Mataariki hospo awards
The annual Mataariki Hospitality Awards held at Forum North recently was a gala event with the following awards going to Far North entrants:
Outstanding Northland Winery Award to Marsden Estate Winery, Kerikeri; Nestle Professional Caterer of the Year to Neat Eats, Kerikeri; The Northland Hospitality Industry Ambassador of the Year to Hughie Blues, Waikokopou Cafe,Waitangi, Northland Service Person of the Year, to Nicola Brazier, Salt Brasserie, Paihia; HSI Northland Secondary Schools Recognition of Training Award to Simon Hart, Kerikeri High School.
Northland Chefs, NZ Chefs Association Young Chef Scholarship Award - a $4000 grant to professional training in Northland was won by Karen Ishigawa, Kerikeri High School, with runner up Korbyn Alexander at Okaihau College.

According to Vision Kerikeri data, Kerikeri Road had 6300 vehicles per day in 1998 and 10300 in 2005. |

Several Far North businesses featured in the 2007 Northland Business Awards. Hosted by the Northland Chamber of Commerce in Whangarei, the awards night attracted a crowd of 450.
Mangonui based Methcon Group won the emerging business award and took the Northland Business of the Year title. Kerikeri based Mad Ideas, specialising in marketing advertising and design, picked up the Massey University Judges Commendation award, while Living Nature topped the export category. Pure Tastes Ltd of Paihia won the general/tourism section and Fullers Bay of Islands took the Northland Regional Council sustainable business award.

National honours for Mahoe cheese
Mahoe cheese added another gold and a bronze at the national cheese awards to a long list of awards and medals in national competitions.
The Mahoe old edam again won gold, while Jake Rosevear took a bronze for his blue cheese in the hobbyist section.
The Mahoe cheese factory, built at Oromahoe by the Rosevear family in 1986, uses biological farming practices that incorporate organic and conventional methods.
Their Very Old Edam won the award for best cheese in its category four years running and was judged supreme champion in 2000. The Bay Chronicle May 2007
